An eco adventure river cruise. Stay in pristine Margaret River Region.
Blackwood River Houseboats is an eco-friendly business, based in Augusta WA, Australia's South West.
Pam Winter and James Austin moved to secluded West Bay to establish the business in 2001. The unique location is adjacent to National Parks and local bio-diversity hotspot. "We wanted to build a clean and green operation with the lightest footprint possible and every aspect of the business reflects that. Base is off-grid, impact is negligible, vessels are fully sealed with low emission 4 stroke outboards."
The houseboats are named after their children. This personal touch follows through to the personal care taken when preparing your houseboat holiday, "our kids grew up here and we love to share it our guests."
We believe in enjoying the outdoors, recharging your batteries and getting back to nature in comfort. All our boats have top decks with shade, a fully equipped galley kitchen, flushing toilet, heated shower, cabin heating, 100% cotton Sheridan sheets, beach towels, bow & stern decks, BBQ and fish scaling station.
We want our guests to have the full river experience so we include extras such as kayaks, stand up paddle boards and a motorized dinghy. When you book we advise contacts for bespoke tours and you will find local interest, bird spotting and orchid books on board.
The lower Blackwood River is an iconic location for fishing, bird watching, kayaking, wildflowers and wildlife. Book your next eco adventure holiday with us now.
All our boats come with a powered dinghy, kayaks, stand up paddle boards and life jackets for children - all upon request. Just pack your food, drink, fishing rods and adventurous spirit.
Blackwood River, Augusta Houseboats, Area of Operation
Download the map below to see the houseboat moorings and area of operation for houseboats on the Blackwood River. Alexandra Bridge is the farthest you can travel. Our area of operations has minimal impact on the environment with swing moorings and no bank access.
From the beginning, the operation was created to be a clean, green, sustainable operation, with minimal footprint. Blackwood River Houseboats is located on south Western Australia's longest river, on Wadandi Boodja (Country). All the houseboats and base are completely off grid. The operation generates power via solar panels, we catch and store our own rain water, the sealed servicing systems are lock and prime activated, houseboats have sealed holding tanks, houseboats are powered by low emission 4-stroke outboards with solar for cabins and swing moorings are installed for minimum disruption to the environment.
With no disruptions, a houseboat holiday is the perfect place to get away from it all. Perhaps all you are after is a break from the bustle? The Blackwood is the best place to listen to nothing but the sound of the water, the many different bird calls and the surrounding trees on the banks of the river. So wind down and tune out & wine and dine your way down the river!
